Dr. Clarence B. Jones and Robert Kraft in Conversation with Gayle King – 92 St Y

March 7, 2024 - 7:00 PM
92 St Y
3195 Lexington Ave
New York, NY

Join civil rights leader and speechwriter Dr. Clarence B. Jones — one of the last surviving activists who worked directly with Martin Luther King, Jr. and is continuing to carry on Dr. King’s legacy as Chairman of Spill the Honey Foundation — with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Gayle King on the historic bonds between Black and Jewish communities in the struggle for equality in America.

The fight against racism and antisemitism have long been entwined. In an emotional Super Bowl ad, Jones and Kraft showed this solidarity to millions of Americans. Jones — before working with King on an early draft of the “I Have a Dream” speech — was profoundly influenced by a Rabbi Joachim Prinz speech underscoring the strength of the Black and Jewish coalition. In 2024, this perspective poses fascinating questions. How do we continue the work of these historic coalitions? How can we build new partnerships that transcend race, class, gender, and ethnicity? Following a short film screening, hear Jones and Kraft talk to Gayle King about their bond, and the story behind the ad that touched the hearts of millions of Americans — and find out how the historic connections between Black and Jewish communities can serve as a foundation for teaching tolerance and fighting inequality.
